Reflection
What I learned from this class, including books (Parker and Schmidt), articles, and everything influenced my ideas about teaching social studies. I like the books the most, it explain what and how we should teach social studies. It pointed out many great ideas and definitely helpful. Social Studies in Elementary Education by Walter C. Parker and Social Studies That Sticks: How to Bring Content and Concepts to Life by Laurel Schmidt are great resources for me to use in the future. I will suggest those books to any teachers!
Good thing we had to do Synopsis/Synthesis/Reflection, otherwise we probably would not read the books. Parker book is easy to read and point out the main ideas and even provide lesson plans. Schmidt book provides standards for each chapter and involves a lot of stories from classes and teachers.
Bottom line is this class is really benefit and important for any students who are going to become teachers. It is great to focus on one subject and learn ways to teach it. Social studies are not my most strengths area but I really enjoy this class and I know I will enjoy teaching social studies. With those resources and ideas from books, I feel more than ready to teach social studies!
